Big cruise-in of classic cars at Art & Seafood Festival

by Bill Powell

Yes, this year’s Holly Point Art & Seafood Festival has lots of food, sea and otherwise, but that’s just part of the fun. There’s also original art, a cruise-in of classic cars, free creek cruises aboard a restored Deltaville Deadrise, antique diesels demonstrated by Henry Lackey, model trains, and live music.

The 16th Holly Point Art & Seafood Festival is coming up with a bunch of diverse activities from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 19. Held at the Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park, 287 Jackson Creek Road, this great little festival has something for all ages and every member of the family.

The classic cars will be rolling in when the festival unfolds at 10 a.m. in the maritime park.

The Festival offers a variety of attractions. Enjoy leisurely creek cruises with Cap’n Pete, art in all media, seafood, Rappahannock Railroaders model trains, classic boat tours, live music, and antique diesel engines.

The museum opens at 10 a.m. with its new exhibits and the temporary classic hydroplane exhibit. You need to see this beautiful antique speedboat and engine while they are on display. Lots of gifts for the holidays in the gift shop.

The best original artists working in their favorite media—paintings, photography, hand-sewn clothing, custom furniture and some surprises—will be there. There’s something for everyone.

Favorite Ray Pittman brings his very large horn band and rhythm section, the “Revival,” live on the pavilion stage from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be a cash wine and beer bar in the South Pavilion and Tom Lively will run his bloody Mary and mimosa bar in the North Pavilion during the show.

Larry Chowning will be selling and signing on the waterfront with his popular books on local history. Yes, he will have his updated edition of the Civil War history “Soldiers at the Doorstep.”
