Phase 2 of the renovation of 71-year-old Deltaville Ballpark kicked off last week, paving the way for handicap-accessible seating to be constructed in the wooden grandstand.
Accommodating a ramp into the grandstand, which will enter on the previously seldom-used 1st base side entrance, involves removing the existing concession stand. The concession stand was built in the 1970s and was not part of the original ballpark. Its replacement will be constructed to aesthetically match the ballpark’s style while providing a modern food preparation area inside.
The demolition work was donated by Joseph C. Jones. Inc, who will be recycling the old masonry block and concrete flooring by crushing it for road material.Â
This is the second in a series of phases undertaken several years ago to complete a comprehensive renovation of the historic ballpark. Phase 1, completed in 2018, was the replacement of the original roof. Phase 3 will be the replacement of the restroom building with handicap accessible facilities. Funding for phase 2 was contributed in large part by a generous grant from the River Counties Community Foundation, and fundraising for phase 3 is ongoing.
