MHS scored all its points in the first half with 14 points coming in the first quarter and 10 in the second quarter. It was a fairly even offensive matchup as MHS had 199 total offense yards in the game compared to 186 for the Yellow Jackets.
The Chargers were on the scoreboard early in the game when linebacker Brock Parrish intercepted a pass with 8:31 left in the first quarter and ran it back 40 yards for a pick-six touchdown. Aaron Akers made good on the extra point to make the score 7-0.
The second half was a defensive duel as the only score came in the fourth quarter when Yellow Jacket halfback Dustin Splawn scored on a 9-yard run and Tyrell Crockett scored the 2-point conversion.
The Chargers had 65 total yards passing and NHS had 2 yards. Hart completed 3 of 7 passing attempts for an average of 21 yards a catch. Along with Ward’s 44-yard touchdown catch, Jaden Reed had a 17-yard catch and Bryan Diggs had a 4-yard catch.
The Chargers will take their 5-1 record to West Point at 7 p.m. this Friday, October 11, to take on the Pointers.
