On Saturday, October 12, “The Tidewater Trio” will open the Rappahannock Concert Association’s 2019-2020 concert season. The concert at the Northumberland County Schools’ Performing Arts Theater on Academic Lane will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Oboist Michael Philpotts, bassoonist Hugh Michie, and pianist Michael Chertock comprise the trio. These talented musicians, who also perform together as members of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, have family connections to Reedville, Norfolk and Virginia Beach.
Their varied musical program, featuring classical chamber music as well as jazz standards, virtuoso arrangements and even popular and patriotic music, will include compositions by Robert Schumann, Frederic Chopin, George Gershwin, and Michael Chertock. Chertock, who had two prior RCA performances as a splendid piano soloist, returns as both performer and composer.
An adult concert ticket is $25, with group rates available. An adult can purchase a ticket for all five concerts in the 2019-2020 concert series for only $100, or a ticket to attend any three of the five concerts for $60. Students are always free.
