The Middlesex varsity volleyball team dominated Mathews on the Lady Blue Devils’ home court on September 12, sweeping the match in three sets, 25-11, 25-13 and 25-10.

Middlesex jumped to a 9-1 lead in game one, an indication of what was to follow in game three when Middlesex took a 10-1 lead.

Mathews has been a volleyball powerhouse for years with multiple state titles to its credit. But last week belonged to the Lady Chargers. “Although it was a big win for us and a hump that we had to get over, it is not our goal for this year,” said Middlesex coach Brian Walton.

The Lady Chargers are 7-1 and played Charles City on September 25.

The Middlesex JV and varsity volleyball teams are at West Point on Thursday, September 26, and travel to King William on Thursday, October 3.

The JV plays at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity plays at 7 p.m.
