Every month The Bay School Community Arts Center in Mathews will feature an Artist of the month.
The September Artist of the Month is Gary Edmondson. There are six paintings by Gary Edmondson that will hang in the gallery through the end of September.
Edmondson was raised in Hampton. For the past 29 years, he has lived in Mathews. He began painting in 1984 after being inspired and taking classes under the guidance of Barkley Sheaks. His work has also been heavily influenced by Maxfield Parrish, Jean-Simone Chardin, Odilon Redon, Charles Ethan Porter and Sanford Robinson Gifford. Gifford was a member of the Hudson River School. Edmondson’s works have been shown in the Morales Art Gallery in Nags Head, N.C., as well as The Gallery on the York, Christopher Newport College, and the Bay School Community Arts Center, and have won many awards.
The Bay School, a non-profit community art school and gallery, is located at 279 Main Street, Mathews.
