The Middlesex High School (MHS) girls cross country team opened its regular season with a second-place finish at Lancaster Wednesday, September 4. The Lady Chargers lost to West Point while beating Lancaster and Rappahannock high schools.
The West Point Lady Pointers won the meet with 26 points; Middlesex was second, 48 points; and Lancaster third, 56 points. Rappahannock did not have five runners to make a team. Low score wins in cross country and a team is composed of five runners.

Smith and Baker are two of the top runners in Region A. They both finished in the top 15 at state last year and were named to the 2018 Single A all-state cross country team.
Lady Charger Lakin Millen (27:57) finished ninth and was the Lady Chargers’ second runner to finish. Sirey Lopez (28:38) was 10th and MHS’s third runner to finish. Kendall Lucas (30:00) finished 13th and fourth on the team, while Catherine Richards (30:15) was 14th and the fifth team runner to finish.
