Hermitage Baptist Church at Church View will celebrate its 230th anniversary on Sunday, September 8. Sunday school will be at 10 a.m., revival/worship at 11 a.m., and a fellowship luncheon will follow.
Rev. Dr. John V. Upton Jr., executive director of the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV), will be the guest speaker for the day and many church friends and family members are expected to gather.
Hermitage Baptist Church was constituted in 1789 and is a daughter church of Glebe Landing Baptist. Hermitage is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention, Baptist General Association of Virginia, and Mid-Tidewater Baptist Association. It is the mother church of Zoar Baptist, Saluda Baptist and Mount Zion Baptist churches. Twenty-eight pastors have served Hermitage with the present pastor being Rev. Edward Harrow Sr.
Revival will continue each evening at 7 p.m. On Monday, September 9, Rev. Dr. Dale P. Sealy from Salem Baptist Church in Fredericksburg will be the guest speaker. On Tuesday, September 10, Dr. David Washburn, BGAV treasurer, will be the guest speaker. On Wednesday, September 11, Rev. Donald Bowen, former pastor of Cobham Park Baptist Church in Warsaw, will be the guest speaker.
Special music will be provided by guests and the church choir for all services.
