The Taters

Deltaville Maritime Museum

It’s August and, with September and oyster season on the way, tickets are now on sale for the 13th Annual Oyster Roast and Dance at Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park. The oyster roast will be held Saturday, September 14, from 5-9 p.m. in the park’s Events Pavilion.

Dinner and dance tickets are now on sale at the museum office, online, by phone, and at Nauti Nell’s in Deltaville.

The roast will begin with a social hour from 5-6 p.m. with a cash wine and beer bar. Steamed oysters will begin outside around 5:30 p.m. The buffet is open from 6-7 p.m. and the dance, with the fabulous “Taters,” follows after dinner until closing. The Taters  play a mix of Beatles, Everly Brothers and other 60s-70s music featuring their intricate 4-part harmonies, energy and talent to get you up and dancing. Bring your dancing shoes.

The menu features oysters on the half shell, oysters steamed, the very popular oysters Rockefeller, Eastern Carolina barbecue, Bill n’ Randy’s Rockin’ Chowder, southern style string beans and potatoes, and cole slaw. Tea and bottled water are included.

The cash wine and beer bar will be open from 5 p.m. until after 8 p.m.

The Pratt sisters will be shucking the half shells in the Pavilion. These champions can shuck ’em faster than you can eat ’em.

Bring your oyster knife and glove for the steamed oysters. We will have the oysters set up on tables just outside the Pavilion under cover.

Tickets for the roast and dance are $40. All tickets at the door are $45 per person. You can buy tickets at the museum Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday from noon-4 p.m., and at Nauti Nell’s in Deltaville. You may also order tickets over the phone, online, and by mail. Tickets are limited to 225, so get yours early.

Following the museum’s “good neighbor” policy, the roast will be over at 9 p.m.

The roast follows the annual museum members meeting from 4-5 p.m.
