Charlotte Callis Slaughter

Charlotte Callis Slaughter, (fondly known as Mama, Nannie and Sissie), 76, of Deltaville, passed away in the afternoon of July 30, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. She was a 1961 graduate of Middlesex High School in Saluda. She was a retired Certified Nursing Assistant after working at the Lancashire Convalescent Center for several years. She was an active member of the Deltaville community, serving on the Lower Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary until her health declined. She was a member of Philippi Christian Church where she taught Sunday school and served on several committees.     

She is preceded in death by her parents, James Russell and Mary Elizabeth Callis; and a special brother-in-law, Warren Deagle.

She leaves behind her husband of 58 years, Kelly of Deltaville; daughter, Becky (Joey) Revere of Hartfield; son, Preston “Rusty” (Kaye) of Newport News; and daughter, Pamela (Dennis) Brandenburg of Hardyville; three granddaughters, Ashley Slaughter of Newport News, and Kelly and Haley Revere of Hartfield; her beloved dog “Lucas” and grand-dog, “Izzy.” She is also survived by her only sister, Jane Deagle of Deltaville; and special nephew, Eric (Angelina) Deagle, and their children Victoria and Zach of Hartfield. Many other niece/nephews and brothers/sisters-in-law survive her.

Visitation was August 1 at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow Faulkner Chapel, Saluda. Funeral services were August 2 at Philippi Christian Church in Deltaville with Reverend Edward Harrow presiding. Burial was in the Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery.        

Memorial gifts in Charlotte’s memory can be made to the Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad, Deltaville; LMVFD, Deltaville; or Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, Gloucester.   

Our family would like to extend a sincere appreciation to the staff at the Fresenius Dialysis Care Center, Riverside Sanders Heron Cove 1, and Riverside Hospice for assisting us with our mom’s care.
