Water, water everywhere! Such is the life in Middlesex County, and from June 26-30 fifteen YMCA youth learned how to sail it! Thanks to a collaboration with Fishing Bay Yacht Club (FBYC), area youth learned the skills of rigging and knot tying, points of sail, turtling boats and then putting all of it together to feel the wind and fly.

“These kids experience a development from the start of camp that many adults never have. It is so much more than moving a boat through the water. Sailing camp provides a model for navigating life’s challenges. Preparedness on the water and off; calming anxiety and fears to make solid decisions; and then, sometimes, when it all gets a bit bumpy, just going with it to see where you land next—that is sailing camp,” said Ranger Joe Hickey, program director at the Middlesex Family YMCA.
