Ellis places 2nd in regional meet

The Middlesex High School boys cross-country team finished 10th in the Class 1A East Region meet on November 7 at Eastern State in Williamsburg.
Altavista standout Sean Farney, who has run times below 16 minutes, won the meet with a time of 16:35.17. Middlesex’s Ridge Ellis captured second place with a personal best time of 16:55.7 over the 3.2-mile course.
Ellis, who is a junior, has won three straight Tidewater District titles and won the Region A title as a freshman and sophomore. This year the Class 1A East Region added several schools, including Altavista.
Jacob Self finished second for the Chargers in 20:08.5 to take 48th place overall; Simon Urban, 56th, 20:34.60; Kyle Forst, 60th, 20:55.22; Bobby Nazrini, 64th, 21:03.24; and Tanner Johannsen, 73rd, 22:23.03.
Ellis was the only MHS male runner to qualify for state. The Group A State cross-country meet will be this Saturday, November 16, at Great Meadow Park near Warrington.
Mathews won the Region A team title with 65 points; Altavista, 2nd, 68; Parry McCluer, 3rd, 106; Washington & Lee, 4th, 109; Rappahannock, 5th, 131; Lancaster, 6th, 122; West Point, 8th, 200; Middlesex, 10th, 230; Northampton, 12th, 339; and Northumberland, 13th, 352.
