John Barber’s Chesapeake-50 Years of Maritime Art

This photo was taken Friday night at the private opening reception for the “John M. Barber’s Chesapeake-50 Years of Maritime Art” exhibition in the new Deltaville Maritime Museum exhibits building. Over 100 spectators and art patrons occupied the central hall of the new museum. The 58 pieces of original art by Barber also filled the museum’s west wing. Six Chesapeake Bay and Middlesex History exhibits, including “What is a Deadrise?”, occupied the entry hall, library and east wing. To understand the versatility of this new building as an exhibit center, the two visible side walls will be removed after the exhibition in October to open up the space to accommodate the extensive Bay and Waterman History exhibits now in the planning/building stage. An artist’s rendering of the next exhibit phase is on display at the museum. The Barber Exhibition runs daily through October 12 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. (Photo by Bill Powell)
